Workshouldn't feelthis hard.

A work survival guide with practical, research-backed help for the things that make work harder than it needs to be: workload, change, conflict, unclear expectations and the conversations nobody wants to have.

Which chapter are you in this week?

Each chapter is a real work problem. Pick one to get something to try tomorrow, and the research behind why it works.

For you: coaching that leaves you with something real

A structured one-to-one coaching program for when work, health or a big change is taking more out of you than it should. It's practical, built around your actual situation, and it isn't therapy.

How the program works

  1. Get clear on where you areYour strengths, values and what's actually draining you, mapped honestly.
  2. Decide where you're goingGoals that matter to you, and an honest look at what's in the way.
  3. Plan for the hard bitsYour early warning signs, your triggers and what you'll do about them, before they happen.
  4. Build and practise the skillsBoundaries, pacing, disclosure and hard conversations, rehearsed until they feel natural.
  5. Use it in real lifeTry it at work, reflect on what happened, adjust, and set yourself up for the year ahead.

Start with a single session, a six-session foundation, or the full program of 12 to 14 sessions. Online, Australia-wide and beyond.

NDIS participants: if you self-manage or are plan-managed, you may be able to use your capacity building funding for this program. New Light Co. is an unregistered NDIS provider, so we can't support NDIA-managed plans.

For teams and organisations

Workshops, programs and advisory that help people work well, and help you meet your obligations on psychosocial risk. From a lunchtime session to a program built around your team.

Australian employers must identify and manage psychosocial hazards the same way they manage physical ones. In Victoria, the Occupational Health and Safety (Psychological Health) Regulations have applied since 1 December 2025. We bring 13 years of risk management experience to making that practical.

For leaders: training that changes what happens on Monday

Managers shape much of what makes work hard or workable. These programs give them skills they practise, not slides they forget.

A program on bias in everyday people decisions: who gets hired, who gets flexibility, how performance is rated, who gets promoted.

One-off bias training tends to fade within days. This works on the decisions themselves, over twelve weeks.

The series (recommended)Four 90-minute sessions a fortnight apart, plus a 60-minute follow-up six weeks later.
The workshopA 3.5-hour introduction for offsites and leadership days.
One-to-one for senior leadersThree coaching sessions applied to the leader's live decisions.
  1. See itWhere bias is most likely to show up in your own decisions.
  2. Catch itSpot the moments you're most at risk: rushed, tired, unclear or under pressure.
  3. Check itQuick checks to test a first impression before it becomes a decision.
  4. Change itIf-then plans and decision routines your team can actually keep.
  5. Keep itA six-week review of what stuck and what needs adjusting.

Every manager gets a workbook and six practical tools. Results are reported to the organisation in aggregate only, never individually.

Jo Mohan, founder of New Light Co.

Hi, I'm Jo. I started working at 14, and I've been the new starter, the manager, the advisor and the person quietly struggling.

Over 31 years I've worked in marketing, advertising, risk and counselling, while living with a chronic health condition. I know how much harder work gets when your health, your manager or your workload isn't on your side.

For the last 13 years I've worked in risk management inside large Australian banking, superannuation, insurance and energy organisations, eight of those years in senior manager roles. I've seen how workload, unclear expectations and badly handled change land on real people. I've also seen what fixes them.

New Light Co. brings together three things: lived experience, risk management and business psychology research. The result is practical help you can use straight away.

  • 13 years in risk management, 8 in senior manager roles
  • Formal counselling training
  • Completing a Master of Business Psychology at Edith Cowan University
  • Based in Melbourne, working online Australia-wide and globally
